How do I add or remove contact tags and what are best practices?

The tagging feature allows you to apply descriptive words to a contact record (a person, company or household) in Wealthbox. Tags are like keywords but non-hierarchical. You can assign as many tags as you wish to a contact and easily rename or delete them later. For example, you can tag a contact record with “golfer”, “A Client” or “401k.” Later, when looking for contacts with these assigned words, you can simply click on the tag from the tags section located on the top right corner of the contact list page.

To tag a contact:

When you are creating or editing a contact, you can add existing tags or create and apply new tags to your contact record. Keep in mind you can apply as many tags as you would like before saving. 

 

How to remove a tag from a contact

  1. Navigate to the Contacts list page by clicking “Contacts” from the left-side panel.
  2. Choose the contact you wish to delete a tag from.
  3. Go into “Edit Contact”.
  4. Click on the “x” next to the tag you wish to remove.


Bulk adding and removing Tags

You can also mass add and remove tags to multiple contacts using "Bulk Actions".

  1. Go to the Contact Page: Navigate to the Contacts section in Wealthbox.
  2. Select Contacts: Check the boxes to the left of the contacts you want to tag. You can select multiple contacts at once.
  3. Click Bulk Actions: Once you’ve selected the contacts, click the "Bulk Actions" dropdown.
  4. Choose "Tag Contacts": From the dropdown menu, select "Tag Contacts."
  5. Add or Select a Tag: From there, you can select "Add Tags" and enter the name of the tag you would like to create or select an existing tag from the dropdown selection. 
  6. Apply the Tag: Once you’ve selected or created the tag, click "Add Tags" to add it to the selected contacts.

Q: Can I add multiple Tags to a Contact?
A: Yes. In Wealthbox, you can add multiple tags to a contact. This allows you to categorize and organize your contacts more efficiently. When adding tags, simply enter or select multiple tags as needed. You can then use filters and reports to sort and manage contacts based on specific tags. You can add an unlimited number of tags to a contact record.


Q: If I tag a household, will the tag show on the household member's individual contacts?
A:
Tags do not automatically transfer between households and individuals. If a tag applies to both, it's best to add it at both levels.


Q: When should I use a tag versus a custom field?

Q: If I delete a tag, will the associated contact names be deleted too?
A:
No, the contact names will not be deleted; only the tag will be deleted.
